Thanked: 1Hello, from the next generation!
Hello! My name is Matt, I live in Graham Washington, and believe it or not, am 15. I've always been interested in anything being made of steel and a sharp edge, even more so if it has a heritage behind it (swords, knives, in this case straight razors). So I've long since thought straight razors were "cool", but only recently contemplated actually getting one having found that typical safety razors (which, by the way, are not so safe in the end.) are far too expensive for me to keep replacing, and need a more permanent solution. Having done more research, am certain of getting one... Or many more than one, haha. I look forward to meeting new, knowledgeable people who share the same interests!

Welcome Matt!
My 15 year old son just had his first shave today. I started him on a DE because he took interest to it, he's a bit scared of the straight razor I think.
There are probably a few guys out there who have "saved" money going the straight razor route. I don't know any myself. There's these "acquisition disorders" that seem to come with it.

Thanked: 433It's very possible to save lots of money especially if you are the do it yourself type and can hold various buying disorders at bay, a few of my best razors are $10 antique store specials, people make there own strops, soaps like Arko sticks can be had for good prices and stones will last lifetimes. Read everything you can on here, you'll do fine!

Thanked: 1Haha, the "acquisition disorders" is true, I already have a number of razors I want to buy. Lucky for me I don't have the money to blow on them in the first place!

Thanked: 1Also, I just bought this razor (yes even though I have no money, I swindled my parents into buying it for me with the promise of paying them back as soon as possible), some reassurance that its a good first razor would be much appreciated!

That's a great grind, should be a good shaver. The spike tip is my favorite, but it has a steeper learning curve than the round tip. Blood is usually the price paid. Once mastered though, nothing is finer in my honest opinion.

Thanked: 1Thanks! I'm okay with a little bit of blood to start out with, it was expected to begin with
