Thanked: 0New in the Lou
Hello,
Currently residing in Saint Louis - Recently became a straight razor shaving fan and I am now hoping to "graduate" to restoring. Recently came across a stash of family heirlooms (or junk - depending...) and I think I've found a wonderful new hobby! Volumes of info on this site - so thank you. I will attempt to post often, but not sure what I could possibly add or contribute to so much knowledge. But wonderful site and hello from Saint Louis.
Thanks!

Welcome to SRP. Quite a few members in MO. If you post photos of your family heirlooms we can let you know if they are worth having honed/restored based on condition. We don't do appraisals so won't be able to comment on value, in case you're curious about that, but you can compare to ebay sales for that. As far as contributing to the knowledge base, anyone's experiences are a contribution to somebody on here.

Welcome to SRP. Post some photos of your heirlooms like Jimmy said when you have some time. For now, read, learn and enjoy and once you become experienced, you'll be able to contribute and help new members who are in the same boat you are currently/once are/were in....I think I got that right. Anyway, welcome aboard and ask any questions you have.

Thanked: 0I'll try to get some photo's up soon.
1) is a Shumate Razor Co. "Vandium" with a St. Louis stamp - translucent brown scales.
2) unclear who the manufacturer is - all that is currently visible is a "made in Germany" stamp. Somewhat more intricate scales, black with some inlays.
3) No markings whatsoever... so I'll keep you all posted.
There are others, but those are the only ones I grabbed based on condition. I still have the others but am not going to actively work on them. I don't imagine any of them have much "value" other than sentimental.
I will try to get some photo's up soon!
Thanks for the warm welcome - sorry for the delay in responding.

Thanked: 0First Pictures from a Newbie
So... Picture of the first attempt at a restore are here. Still lacking the tools needed to remove the scales for a 100% sand job - but this seemed to work.

Welcome to SRP. I'm also in the STL area (O'fallon). I've done several restorations and can help you with honing also. Take Lynn up on his offer, you'll learn more in an hour with Lynn than you would in a decade of searching the web.
