Thanked: 334Greetings and Hallucinations!
Greetings gentlemen! I found this wonderful site two months ago and have been soaking up the wisdom contained herein with alacrity and exuberance. I wish to thank everyone who has posted thus far for sharing their knowledge, experiences, insights, wisdom, humour and "oops" moments. I wish to single out Mr. Lynn Abrams for his creation of both this website and especially for the wiki portion thereof -- both have been of incalculable value to me, so a big "Thank you, Mr. Abrams!" goes out to him from yours truly.
I've been a straight razor user off and on (mostly off) for 16 years. However, I've been using my straights more often since retiring a few years ago. My stable is rather paltry compared to most other SRP members, consisting of a Robeson ShurEdge and an AMCO Royal Crown (sorry, I do not have the equipment to post pics yet). I use an Illinois #127 razor strop that I received as a gift 16 years ago from a former SWMBO, and am currently seeking a quality barber hone. Oddly, my preferred cream is Barbasol and my current "Please Notify In Case of Emergency Person's" favoured aftershave is British Sterling, so I wear that to please her, although I confess to liking the scent myself as I've been using it for over 20 years (feel free to bomb my selections -- go ahead, get it over with, I can take it).
Very recently, I availed myself of Mr. Lynn Abrams' honing services on my Robeson and found myself beyond impressed -- ALL HAIL LYNN! ALL HAIL LYNN! ALL HAIL LYNN! In case I didn't make myself clear, I hold Mr. Abrams' skills in the highest regard, and I find him to be a person of first-rate character.
In closing, I look forward to associating with you gentlemen and learning that which you have to offer this rookie member of SRP!

Thanked: 30Well there is an aloxite hone in the classifieds at this very moment. I was keeping my eyeball on it as I was quite satisfied of the results of a few passes my swaty w/ a bit o lather. I doubt it will come near the edge of a freshly honemeister honed razor, but should keep it shavable for a long time. DISCLAIMER: My face and experience is no good for testing blades for smoothness etc.
