Default Good afternoon gents, and ladies.

    Hellllloooo,,,,,
I am new to SRP and straight razor shaving. I have been lathering up and using a DE safty razor going on about six years now so I figure this is the next logical step. Plus I realy like the way I feel when I get out of the barber chair so I thought I would try to bring some of that feeling home.

I have made my fist purchase of a couple of Straight razors from a classified add on a difernt forum: a Bรถker 1101 (I gather it's an 1101 from information I fond here at SRP) and a Shumate Ben-Hur. Sorry no pictures yet. I havent tried either of them yet. I have been starting slowly with a Feather I procured from my mother, she used to shave our necks with it when we were kids. With the Feather I always know I have a good edge.

Home for me is Soddy Daisy, a little town just north of Chattanooga, TN. I'm curious as to how many of you out there are close by?

Anyway, thanks to all for the all the infomation and the development of SRP. This had become my "goto site" for information.

    Greg

    Welcome to SRP!
I trust the razors you got on the other forums were honed properly and that you also acquired a strop.

a quick advanced search of the members list using "tn" as the location lists lots of users... some even in Chattanooga. you might want to include your location in your profile and post a thread about "looking for help in the Chattanooga, TN area" in the beginner's forum... your request would get more responses there.

    enjoy,
    jim

Welcome, Greg. 'Sounds like you're on your way to some fun & great shaves. 2 yrs next month, and the joy shows no sign of easing up. Its still outrageous to me that the words 'enjoyment' and 'pleasure' could be in the same sentences as 'shaving'. Keep us posted on how it goes. The blades you mention should be entirely up to the task. Should you need a hand w/ edges, PM me - nothing but the cost to get them back to you.

Your DE experience is likely better than my own. Although I learned on a DE, I have less trouble on a str8 than anything. Hope you enjoy the new shave alot.

I'll give the search a try, I'm still finding my way around this forum.

Here are pictures of my first two Razors. I know the second is a little blury, sorry about that. This is also my first attempt at taking pictures of razors. Plus, my camera battery dies after the 3rd click.

These were taken right when the package was oppened, they have been wiped down and oiled awaiting use.

My laptop batteries are like that

    Are the razors honed ?
Be careful about laying razor edges against hard surfaces, the plastic case of a phone or even your fingernail can do damage.
