Thanked: 0Greetings from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Hi all,
Brand new to wet shaving and straight razor shaving. I recently purchased a Dovo Classic 5/8th Full Hollow Ground razor from Classic Shaving but have yet to use it. I'm fairly certain that it isn't "shave ready" (I foolishly chose not to have them hone my razor) so I'm not going to use until I take it to my local honer. I'm using the Classic Shaving brand vintage style D/E razor, Van der Hagen Badger Brush and Soap, and discount CVS Pharmacy brand aftershave.
I'm really excited to upgrade my brush, soap, and aftershave, as well as starting to use my Dovo. I'll let everyone know when I touch the blade to my face for the first time and how it goes. Thanks!

Welcome to SRP and, for your face's sake, I hope your local honer uses a cut-throat himself.
Unfortunately, I've seen too many 'tales of woe' from people, new to straight shaving, that have taken their new razor to the 'local knife guy' for honing and been less than pleased with the results.
Hang on and enjoy the ride

Thanked: 0I'm not sure if he uses a straight razor himself. Maybe Robd knows something about this place. It's called The Strop Shop in Burnsville.

Thanked: 433If you need some honing done stop by, I can do it also (Newbie price, free). I looked up the Strop shop and he doesn't mention razors, which doesn't mean he can't do it. It is a lot more precise than knives and tools.

Thanked: 2209Welcome to SRP
You can rely on RodB for honing. He does a very good work. I have known him for several years now and have referred a number of people to him and they all were very pleased.
Feel free to contact any of us here in Minnesota. I will send you a PM with my contact details.
