Thanked: 0Texan in St. Louis
I'm Charlie from St. Louis via Austin. I must say I'm happy to be here!
After reading through this forum the past few days, I'm quite encouraged with the amount of generous honest help. Totally awesome...trolls and negativism suck!
I'm definitely new to straight razor shaving. I've been shaving with a DE razoe for about 6 months and while I was achieving better shaves...I was still in pursuit of a better shave.
So I came across Lynn's email and we communicated back and forth for about a week. What an amazing gentlemen! So very helpful.
So I got a TI from the art of shaving and immediately sent it to Lynn for honing prior to my first use.
First shave was okay, but I felt like I had a lot to learn. But was fine with that as I like learning and was having fun. The next 3 shaves got progressively worse. Tons of pulling and drag. After reading through the forum I surmised that my skin was too dry as it didn't matter how long I took a shower or let my lather sit on my face.
So last night I used some of my wife's kiehls cream and shaved in the morning as normal. Wow did that make a difference! It wasn't a BBS, but much better and needless to say I'll be getting some this cream! My skin was so dry that it didn't matter how sharp the blade was! HA!
Anyone else notice a better shave after moisturizing the night before a shave?

Moisture is way good when using a straight razor.

Thanked: 4942Check out the Get Togethers and Meeting section of the General forum for the Mid Mo thread. We should have about 20-30 guys down here from all over the country starting Friday night and all day Saturday, honing, restoring and maybe even making some straight razors. Lots of brushes and soaps and strops to try. A custom straight razor from Bob Allman will be given away along with some strops a brush and a bunch of soaps. Charlie Lewis and Randy Tuttle will also be there. You will get the chance to try other razors and the guys are always helpful with shaving tips for new guys. Let me know if you need the address. The ride is usually around 90 minutes from St. Louis.

Yes, I can recommend you take the extended, long trip! Being from Texas, that aint so far! Besides there will be much to lean AND I understand Bob Allman will be giving away a cool custom! Wish I could go! Just Do It!

Greetings, Charlie. 'Glad to have you.
Being new, its hard to know what weight to put on this or that input from guys. Lynn's recommendation to attend the meet is likely the most important. You can learn more in a day than months of reading and practice. Bring your razor in case it needs a touch up from awkward stropping.
You have, indeed, struck the mother lode of good info, help and attitudes. 'Hope to see more posts, questions from you.
