Thread: Hello from San Francisco

I have decided it's time to learn a new old skill, stop wasting money on disposable razors, and maybe even save some space in the local landfill. I have acquired my first SR, an Otto Deutsch HANS Straight Razor, and I hope to have it shave ready soon. Is there anyone in the San Francisco bay area that could point me to good spots to get straight razor supplies, restoration, and honing done? I am willing to drive a good bit if the spot is worth it.

Welcome to SRP. I think your best bet for honing/restoration services for your razor would be to check the classifieds here, click member services and you'll see a list of members here who offer their services, that way all you have to do is drive to the nearest post office. I've had numerous razors honed by various members here and have always been satisfied with their service and results. As for various other items, check the vendor's corner for everything else. Be sure to read the helpful links for beginners on the SRP home page. Hope this helps and ask any questions you have.

Welcome, and that's a good looking first. The saving landfill part works perfectly, saving money only works until the RAD sets in.

Cleaned it up a bit and sent him off today for honing at Straight Razor Design. Can't wait to get him back so i can shave my face off!

Nancy Boy shaving cream is excellent, and you can pick some up in San Francisco. The Nancy Boy store has a good selection of their shaving creams and aftershave balms. Also, u can check out the Macca Root shaving cream at the Body Shop and the C.O. Bigelow shaving cream at Bath & Body Works, all good stuff. Finally, there is an Art of Shaving store in San Francisco,Union Square. They are a little pricey for their gear, but you can check out some brushes, Dovo and Theirs Issard straights, and their creams and soaps, which are excellent and well worth the price.

Thanks all for the information and thoughts. I am getting a little bit scared to use the spike point as I've heard you can leave a mean mistake a little more easy than without the point, but I think my steady hand will help me out. I will definitely post my first shave results.
