    Default Hello from Connecticut

    Hello All,

I have been DE shaving for the past 6 months with the ultimate goal of switching to straight razor shaving. I must say that I have read so much as I lurked this forum, that at times it seems overwhelming. I finally tonight ordered my sight unseen razor from Larry and created an account here. I can't wait to see what fate will deliver to my door. I know it won't be pretty and shiny, but I know it is the right path and I am excited. I know I am a newbie and probably should not be giving advice to other newbies, but here it goes anyway. I knew that my goal was to always shave with a straight razor for the rest of my life. So what I did for the past month, as silly as it sounds was buy a Parker SR1 shavette for 18 bucks. I never put a blade in it. What I would do is just pratice 10 min a day switching hands, and pretend shave with out a blade to get my left and right hand technique down. Will it help? I really hope so. I will report back once I get my whipped dog straight razor.

Thank you all in this forum for all your knowledge.

Welcome! Enjoy your new razor. Did you get a strop too?

Your practice sounds like a good idea. It certainly can't hurt to try what you did.

    Michael,

Yes I ordered the 55.00 razor which includes the poor mans strop. I must say I am a little nervous and excited about learning the skill of stropping and honing, but it must be learned and done.
