    Default Hello from Pittsburgh

In a world of technology and convenience, there is something really cool about doing things the old way. My grandfather is a plumber, he told me when he used to use cast iron pipe and lead joints, it was an art. That has always stuck in my head. I just bought a Dovo razor and have shaved twice so far. First time was pretty uncomfortable and full of razor burn. The second time was a little better, but with a nice slice on the side of my face. I am not very good and stropping. I will not give up, I am committed to learning the ART of straight razor shaving. Thanks in advance for all the advice that will lead me to the promise land!

Let me welcome yinz to SRP. My wife is from your neck of the woods.

As to stropping... the best advice ever given to me here was to use a butter knife for practice. You can learn the flip, get the muscle memory thing down, and not risk damaging your strop.

    Enjoy the ride

Welcome, and learning the art is ALL the fun of it. Practice and patience. Remember the 3 big rules to success: Preparation, pressure and angle. Get those three things down and the burn will disappear!!

    Good luck mate, welcome aboard.
