on the cutting edge
Hello Ladies and Gents,
My search for an answer has brought me here. Can i get a shave that i enjoy and that is actually close? The answer is clearly yes and i have now started on my very own straight razor adventure. goodbye 3 o'clock shadow....
I look forward to gaining knowledge from you all and having you becoming a key part on my own personal adventure back in time.
At this stage i am shaving with a dovo shavette with a black insert (which i'm not fully convinced about) and using a variety of shaving creams and soaps (Taylor's, Colonel Conk, Poraso and others) and hope to eventually go the hollow ground avenue once i stop ripping my face up...
afterall it was johnny cash that had to play a song 100 times before he recorded it... so i am doing the same with my shaving!
Best regards from AUS everybody!

Thanked: 1936Welcome to the forum! There are several Aussie's here who are worth their weight in gold, it would be great if one of of them were to live relatively close to you to mentor you in your quest for a proper shave. Once you get the straight razor down, no other shave is as comfortable and close by my experience.
Now for some advice. Look on the forum here and get a properly honed straight razor and a strop. Quit that shavette as soon as you get the strop and razor in as their shave is much smoother than what you are using now...you will thank me later.

Thanked: 1936If it's in the classified's here...more than likely you can buy it safely. Ask the seller how it shaves & if it's freshly honed. Just keep in mind that "shave-ready" is a VERY relative term. For example a newer straight shaver may like the shave his freshly honed razor is giving, then a veteran shaver tries the same razor and it's a mediocre edge.

I started with a Shavette, and it worked out fine. With a Shavette, the question is never whether the blade is shave ready, but is your face ready for your technique?
