    Smile Hello from Ohio

I just joined the forums and wanted to introduce my self. My name is Mike and I live in New London,Ohio. I am married and have two kids (21&17). I really enjoy reading the posts and advice in on this Website. I been using a straight razor (J.R. Torrey) for about 4 months now. Before that, I was using a DE razor (Merkur and Edwin Jagger) for around five years. I started out by using a Parker Shavette razor. I wanted to see if I was going to like using straight razor so, instead of investing a lot of money up front, I opted for the disposable blade razor. As with most newbies, I ended nicking my self for the first week or so. After getting use to the razor and the proper shaving technique, I was hooked. I ended up sending a straight razor ( Cracker Jack)that a friend gave me years ago to Lynn for honing. I didn't realize that the razor had a slight warp on the edge towards the tip of the blade. I couldn't shave with it, even though Lynn made it very sharp, the razor just hit and missed because of the warp. So, I puchased a J.R. Torrey off of Ebay also, some hones and a strop. I love the feel of a straight razor shave!! A lot of my friends and family look at me like I am crazy when I tell them that I use a straight razor.. Every one I know uses modern razors (Mach's or Quattro"s). I tell them that those are nothing but junk!! I really look forward to reading and commenting on all of your posts!! Thanks for taking the time to read minie!!
    Mike

Hi, Mike, and welcome to SRP! It sounds like you've got a great attitude towards the hobby, and we're glad to have you here. Pics of your gear are always a good way to introduce yourself as well, unless you're like me and don't have the equipment to do so. What soap/creme/brush do you use?

Thank you!! I'll have to post pictures of my gear here soon. I use a Twizzerman Badger brush and Mama Bear's dragon blood shave soap. I was using Taylor of Bond Street when I was using a DE razor but, I notice since using a straight razor, that it was drying my face out. So far I really like Mama Bears!!!
