Default Greetings from a Pirate Enthusiast

    Greetings all.
I just threw down a load of money to get me started on straight razors. I look forward to learning the straight razor. What I got was:
    1. 4000/8000 stone
    2. Chromium oxide paste
    3. Leather and Linen Strop
    4. Shaving Mug
    5. Thiers Issard Badger Brush
    6. Hart Steel Razor

I know it was a pretty penny but I had many reasons I wanted to quit conventional razors. One being that I am known to grow beards. I have also burnt several beard trimmers. Four to be exact. I have gone to comb and scissors for that. Another reason is price. I can get maybe 3 decent shaves out of one cartridge. By the third or fourth it gets rough. But one of the real reasons is well there really is nothing more manly than a straight razor shave. It just exudes class and manliness. I know I put a lot of money down to get started but I am not one to give up easily and I think through big decisions like this. I look forward to the experience and any advice.

I agree whole heartedly... well except the throwing down the pretty penny part... it definately sound like you had to use AT LEAST a handsome quarter for that gear.

Welcome! You'll hopefully love the Hart. I too had one for my first razor. A joy to shave with when it comes around in rotation.

Welcome to SRP. You have made excellent choices not only in your equipment but in coming here to learn. Take your time as you learn this new skill and have fun while you learn. Ask questions, the only bad question is the one not asked. Good luck!!!

I ordered a spike with rosewood handles. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I like pirates too. Welcome aboard!

Just take your time and enjoy it; you'll never look back to another method of shaving.
