Thanked: 4Hello from Haigh, Wigan, United Kingdom
Hello everybody !
Just a few lines to introduce myself and explain what I'm doing here.
My name is Andrew White ("Andy") and I'm an Electronics Engineer working in Hindley, near Wigan, in the United Kingdom
I've collected antiques for many years, mainly metal items, but until recently I'd never owned any cut-throat razors.
One of my collecting areas is items associated with my home town of Wigan.
I buy things mainly from the ebay.co.uk site and have just bought a box of six different cut-throat razors, just to get one which is signed by a Wigan ironmonger.
The box is interesting in itself, being leather with embossed details on it, including:-
"Fitted with Josh. Rodgers & Sons Best Cutlery"
None of the razors are signed by Rodgers and the case seems to have been designed to hold seven cased razors - one for each day of the week ?
If anyone's interested, I can post pictures of the case and the razors ?
Kind regards,
Andy

Thanked: 67Oh yes. Pictures of razors and related gear are always popular round here.
Are you planning to shave with a straight razor, or are you just going to admire them? Vintage razors from ebay are very unlikely to be sharp enough to shave with - they're likely to be dangerously sharp from the point of view of accidental cuts, but this is still nowhere near shaving-sharp.
Oh, and welcome to SRP.

Thanked: 4Hi, thanks for the speedy welcome.
In answer to your question: no, I'm not planning to shave with any of them, just (gently) clean them up and admire the workmanship.
To be honest, at this point in time they scare me......
Now, let's see if I can upload some photos
The first three are of the first razor I cleaned up, witha (rubbed) J Beal & Sons signature, plus the name of the retailer (an auctioneer) etched on the blade
Then there's a top view of the case.
Finally, there's four views of the second razor, signed Krauss
Are these candidates for adding to your database ?
Cheers,
Andy

Thanked: 67I like the razor made for Potts - nice overall shape, and looks very lightly used. The case is good too - Joseph Rodgers and Sons were a great Sheffield manufacturer.
If you begin to hear tiny metallic voices saying 'sharpen us up, shave with us!' there's a wealth of info on this site. But you'd best call a shrink just to be on the safe side.
