Thanked: 0Thank you
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge and experience. I’ve been shaving with a straight blade for a few weeks and love it. Having a place that I can go and do research and read about other people's experiences is priceless. I look forward to getting to know you all through the next several years. I’m also wondering if there is anyone near Spokane WA that would be willing to give me a few pointers on honing. It’s always great to watch someone in person do something that you want to master. Thanks again everyone.

Welcome aboard! This is indeed a great community full of helpful, knowledgeable folks. It used to be possible to search for members in yuor local area becasue the forum had a member location function. Unfortunately, the current version no longer supports that. But you might find some help here: Local Help - Straight Razor Place Wiki
It's a small list but hopefully as more members find out about it, more folks will add their names to it so we'll be able to find fellow straight shavers where we live.

Thanked: 0A little more about me. I have bought a couple nice razors and a couple Junk razors to practice with. Not sure that was a good idea as I now want more Good razors to play with. But my two nice razors are a vintage J.Allen & Sons Non XXL Medium size hollow ground and a Dovo 6/8 Stainless steel Black wood Grenadille razor. I've also picked up a inexpensive Strop and have a China 1200 grit stone on its way. And of course different shave soaps and creams and aftershaves.
I love how going through the process really starts the morning off better than the get up shower, slap some shaving cream on and run a cartridge over your face a couple times. A question I have is how much difference does using an Alum block make? Right now I use AOS Pre oil, then AOS Shaving soap with a badger brush, cold water rinse and then AOS Post shave balm and then my aftershave. Not sure another step is needed. I’d love feedback from those of you who do or don’t use it. Thanks.
