Default Newbie looking to pick up restoration

I've been straight shaving for a year now, and I'd like to try my hand at restoration. I've absorbed B&B's wiki and watched undream's restoration videos on YouTube. Can anyone point me to resources for learning about the histories of manufacturers? I'm starved for information. Are there any instruction manuals out there for beginners?

You'll find some brief histories here: STRAZORS.com - all about classic razors - Home page The site is run by Manah from here on SRP.

You may find what you're looking for here: Category:Straight Razor Database - Straight Razor Place Wiki

An interesting book (if you can find it - I just bought the ebook not too long ago, but have had trouble finding it in hardcopy) is the "Standard Guide to Razors" by Roy Ritchie and Ron Stewart. To the best of my knowledge a 'real' history of straight razors is yet to be written. I'm an historian and have been kicking around the idea of doing something about that, but I think I'd need to find a way to become independently wealthy first.

Also, if you have a question about a specific blade or manufacturer, feel free to post it here and we'll do what we can to help.

And for instruction manuals, there are quite a few old ones that can be found as PDFs or ebooks online. But the best source of beginner info (IMHO) is right here:

    Welcome, and good luck!
