Default Another folk from Puerto Rico.

    Hi everybody!

Im in the process of buying my first straight razor and im really exited to see so many people interested in this topic. I'm a 28 years old from P.R. And i have been shaving with a double Edge for about 4 years now. About a year ago i started using a kind-of straight razor that uses disposable blades (like the shavette, but cheaper) and I think I'm ready to start with a real men's razor lol.

So I was wondering, How different is the shaving experience between what im using now and a real straight razor?

I've been reading a lot in the last few weeks and this seems to be a really good community!

    Thanks in advance.

    -Carlos.

    Bienvenidos, caballero!

For me, a properly honed and stropped straight edge is a much more comfortable shave than the disposable. I've only been shaved with a disposable straight the few times that I've gone to a barber shop - I think they all have to use disposables these days - and it never felt quite right.

Been a long time since I used a DE, might get one again some day, especially for travelling.

By the way, what would you call the straight razor in Espanol - navaja or rasuradora? How about strop and brush?

    Saludos, -o

Here Straight Razor shaving is not very popular.I starte looking information online cause I was unable to find someone on my island that still shaves with straight razor. Once I started reading the forums I discovered some of the members of this comunity are from Puerto Rico to (which made me very happy haha!)

Straight Razors here are called "Barberas", I learned (from SRP member vicmaldo) that Strop is called "Asentador" and Brush is "Brocha".

I already have some shaving creams and stuff:

Neutrogena - Skin Clearing Shaving Cream

The Art of Shaving - Sandalwood Essential Oil Shaving Cream

Anthony Logistics - Mens Shave Cream

Lab Series - Maximun Comfort Shave Cream

Jack Black - Beard Lube conditioning Shave

Shaveworks - The Cool Fix targeted Lotion

Most of them were Gifts from my girlfriend (Mostly brought from Sephora) so I don't know how popular are this products within the Straight Razor Shaving community.

I know I've got a lot to learn and I hope to learn it with the help of you guys.
