Thanked: 0Hello all
Hey folks -
I just wanted to post a quick hello. Been lurking for a few weeks, trying to soak up knowledge. Just got into shaving with straights a few weeks ago, and I am hooked! I look forward to learning as much as I can from everyone on the forum.

Welcome and thanks for posting!
What kind of razors etc are you using? How is the shave going?

Thanked: 0Thanks for the welcome, Michael.
What I have so far (all on recommendations from friend, or flat out gift):
Imperial Extra Hollow Ground
Levering Razor "The Artist"
ERN 1934 "Electric Razor"
Geneva Cutlery - 2 blades, one of them Damascus (although I'm pretty sure it's just for show)
Wade & Butcher hollow ground
and, sitting at the post office, an "antique" Filarmonica
I think I got my SRAD from a related Japanese kitchen knife addiction, so I jumped right in...
Parker pure badger brush on the way, but I think I'm going to order a silvertip from Larry, as well as a sight unseen deal.
I've shaved with the Imperial, the Artist, and the Wade & Butcher. The W&B was the best shave so far, as it was shave ready when I got it. I definitely still need to work on my technique, but coming from a mach 3, these are the best shaves I've ever had. The eventual goal is to SR my noggin, so I can stop using the cartridges. I'm not quite that brave yet, but I'll get there.

Hi
I can tell you that shaving your noggin is nowhere near as tricky as you think, and a lot less frustrating than using cartridge razors! I hadn't been using SR's for too long when i first tried to shave my head and i only really found the bit behind my ears nervewracking, otherwise you can go clean over the top of your head and down to the bottom of your neck in one smooth pass without having to unclog the razor. Obviously exercising a significant amount of care while doing so.. but definitely not as bad as you think! Just make sure you maintain the correct cutting angle as you go over else you end up with a bit of scraping on the back of your head like I nearly did the first time hehe.
