Hi all,
Barry here from Whistler, BC. Took the plunge and I'm waiting for my straight razor to arrive. I can't wait to start!

Hello, fellow Canuck.
What did you get? My first razor was (is) a Dovo Astrale. I now have a second in the uh... Toolkit, but it needs work before I can start using it.
Have you been exploring the various shaving creams et al as well? I've discovered a few faves so far, myself...

Thanked: 0Hi,
I'm originally from Montreal! Small world. I bought a Hart Steel Hart Steel American-made Straight Razors after reading an article in Boing Boing http://bit.ly/PzkXcT and since I already use a brush and cream (Body Shop) I'll give that a try.

The Hart will be a good start.
Loving mine...along with a few others
Seriously, I think you have selected a great blade to start with. I found it to be a very intuitive blade to shave with.

Thanked: 0Thanks everyone for the kind words of encouragement and for the info on the Spokane show (I might take that in if I've not somehow manged to exsanguinate myself). I'll let everyone know how my first shave goes!

You've probably heard this ad nauseam, but it takes many shaves to get proficient; don't get discouraged if your first few shaves have results that are less than ideal. Or are uh... A little on the bloody side. I started on one of those jobbies that uses half a safety-razor blade and the damned corner kept kicking and slicing me. Once I got my first real straight, things went much better, but I'd say I took the average (150 shaves) before I could get a BBS shave without issues at all.
