Hello from Canada
its time i join up over here,... after visiting my dads place (he deals antiques) i picked a couple of razors up for free my favourite price, and i also traded some DE blades for another straight, well one of my dads had a crack in the middle of the blade running up about halfway so it leaves me with two
you can see the nasty little crack in there,... but the other two are good.
as i need to get some things to maintain my edges the bulk of the money i have will go to that so any help at all in regards to a cheap way to get the two straights i have into shave condition would be a HUGE help as im itchin to get these guys into use
funny thing, straights are what got me into looking at forums, i ended up with a feather AC and then got used to shaving with it but it didnt have that classic mojo a proper straight does so i sold it and ended up in the DE and SE worlds for a while,... but that little voice and some opportunity brought me back to the straights,.... hope i can figure this all out and get to start soon
Nice to meet you all
BTW if anyone has use for that cracked blade for some reason, you can have it drop me a PM and ill put it in the post for yaLast edited by syngent; 09-17-2012 at 02:56 AM.

Hello and welcome to SRP!
Prepare to have a whole bunch of jealous members make themselves known - a lot of use would *love* to have direct access to an antique dealer like that!
To be absolutely honest your best option at this point is to send at least one of your razors to a pro to be honed and made truly 'shave-ready'. That way you can work on your shaving technique without wondering whether any problems that should arise are the fault of the blade. Whereabouts are you? There may be a reputable honer nearby. If not, there are a number who advertise in the classifieds here.
Other than that, clean them up with some polish (take care with the coloured bit on that one - that may not react *at all* well to polishing, etc. In fact, it may disappear altogether) and possibly sandpaper if there is pitting/rust that the polish can't handle, get them honed up, and go to town. I'll let others with more experience chime in on the honing front if you're determined to have a go at that yourself.
Are those black scales horn? If so, get yourself some 100% neatsfoot oil (from either a saddlery or leather supply place) and give them a soak. That will rejuvenate them nicely.
Since you're coming from DE shaving, I imagine you'll be set with a brush and soaps, so the only other thing you really need will be a strop.
Good luck!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

thanks Cangooner, im from oshawa just outside of toronto, and i just found that section in the mall for services so im really happy about that, i think for now im going to let someone elses hands get these into shape
and yes brush and soaps i have plenty of lol, to much in fact, i just gave half of it to a travel box and it will still be here for years lol
ill have to see if we have any members around me that do the honeing if not i have no trouble mailing out to someone either,
As for the scales i dont know, the company stopped making razors over a hundred years ago, but they feel like plastic or bakelite to me, doesnt look as if they have ever been replaced though certainly needs a good polish thoughJames -"I got into trouble once, and have remained there ever since"
