Thanked: 0Why hello there
Hi all. Thought I'd finally say hello to everyone on the forums. I have been shaving with a straight razor for about six months now, and have found this place to be extremely helpful!
I started shaving with a new shaving starter kit from Invisible Edge. It was a fantastic way to get started, and I would highly recommend that starter set to anyone thinking about getting into straight razors!
After accidentally chipping my razor's edge I decided to try honing it, then finishing it off with some stopping compound. I was impressed with how easily the hollow ground blade was to fix up!
A few days later I dropped my razor while tidying and broke the scales! Again, I decided to try fix it myself, and bought some nice new scales. I found that these were easier to fit than I thought, so I recently decided to purchase a couple of razors from eBay and restore them. I am hugely impressed with my Taylor's Eye Witness razor, and think I might enjoy restoring razors (there's something therapeutic about it, all my friends think I'm disturbed!), and thought I'd just introduce myself here - I think it's likely I'll be spending more time on here in the future!

Hi greigb99,
I hate dropping a razor, but I think I've done it 3 or 4 times. The one that irked me the most was when I was having to move my razors and I picked one up and then saw its coffin laying there. Picked it up, slid the razor in it and the other end of the box was gone!! Hardwood floor, ARGH!!! Anyway, welcome to SRP! If we can help with anything, don't hesitate to ask. If you haven't visited the wiki yet, it's loaded with good info especially for newer members. Straight Razor Place Wiki - Straight Razor Place Wiki. Again, Welcome!!
Regards,
Howard

G'Day and welcome to SRP.
It sounds like you're off to a good start - I would address the dropping razors issue though, if I were you - it won't always turn out so well (voice of experience)
As said previously, we love seeing the results of peoples efforts, so please post some photos.Hang on and enjoy the ride...
