Default Good morning from the mountains of Arizona

Good morning from Flagstaff, Arizona-gateway to the Grand Canyon for those of you who don't know the Geography around here. I had my first straight razor shave when I was 16 in 1966 done by an uncle who was a barber. the Experience has lived on and I have tried to shave myself with a straight several times since. Unfortunately, like many, my introduction and instruction to shaving was the presentation of a schick and told how to stem the flow of blood. I recently took a couple of straights in trade from another wet shaving site and decided to try again. Since saddle shops still exist here, I got a piece of latigo cinch leather and rolled a strop and gave it a try..... and realized why I stopped the last time.
Since my father and uncle have since passed, I went to the Web and actually got some valid information and am actually learning the basics of the art of straight shaving.
Its fun-I still use my slant for the second pass and to go to the places I won't take the straight, like my throat-yet.
This is a great site-best info I have run on and the tone of the forum is much more pleasant to my tastes in terms of civil discourse. Don't know how much I can contribute but now this forum my second read in the morning after the NY Times-yes there are literate and humanistic people in Arizona despite the folks that get elected to public office here.

Welcome to SRP. I'm alittle bit farther down the road in Tucson. Who knows, maybe if we get a few more Arizona members we could have a get-together in the future. Post and questions you have as the gentlemen (& ladies) are always willing to help a new member out.

Shouldn't be a problem with the hunt. The elk were like fleas in that area last time I was down that way

I would like to do a wet shave meet up I don't have any sense of how many we have shaving straights in the state but there is an Art of Shaving store in Scottsdale so there must be some interest
