Thanked: 0Hello from New Mexico
Hi everybody,
I'm Clay from the mountainous southwest just outside of Santa Fe, NM. I'm fairly new to straight razor shaving, really a rank amateur. I'm an avid knife sharpener and have a blast chasing perfection on knife edges. I think razors are the next place for me to begin learning and this forum looks like a great resource to start that journey. I'm sure I'll be learning tons from you guys as time goes on. I currently have a Dovo though I don't know much about it, picked it up at a gun show a few years ago. I suppose there are many models of Dovo razors, is there a way for me to tell if mine is any good?

Dovo usally has the name or line etched into the blade or tang somewhere, but I haven't had a bad dovo yet (I have three); check the name somewhere and let us know...oh well, welcome to srp!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Hi Clay,
Welcome to SRP!! Answering your question, Dovo's are a good and reputable brand of razor. Whether the one you got at the gun show is good will probably require some pictures, we love pictures of razors, and you'll get plenty of opinions on it. Coming in from a knife background you're going to find many of the things that you've learned about knife sharpening are going to be challenged when it comes to razor sharpening. They're two different animals. I know you'll find lots of great info here on the forum. The search box at the top right is invaluable for finding what your looking for and this link is an excellent resource. Straight Razor Place Wiki - Straight Razor Place Wiki Enjoy the forum and again, Welcome!!
Best Regards,
Howard
