Newbie from Culver City, CA
My name is Marc Matloff and I have been wet shaving (badly) on and off for decades. I wore beards off and on and tried electrics disliking all of them. Eight months ago, I got fed up with my beard and started looking online for a better way to stay clean shaven. I learned how to use a DE razor (I favor open combs along the line of the Gillette old type) and began looking forward to my shaves. I have been fascinated with straight razor shaving since I saw my grandfather use a straight. He was a barber by trade and made it look easy. Long ago I bought a Bartman beginners razor and gave it a shot (no online instruction back then) and I won't go into the gore.
Now I am interested in trying again. Have been using the old, recently honed Bartman for about a month and enjoy the challenge. I can do a WTG pass on my checks and neck and then finish with a DE. I am basically starting from scratch but hope to one day be shaving most days with a straight. I look forward to learning from all you experienced straight shavers. The tale is doon, and God save al the rowte!

Hi Marc,
Welcome to SRP!! I had one of those gore episodes before SRP also. You've found a great forum for getting help with the straight razor experience. There's always someone ready to help when you have a question. Look forward to seeing you on the forum. Welcome!!
Best Regards,
Howard

Hey, Mark. Bravo for jumping in (again). There's no doubt it'll become easier. One thing that may help is getting together w/ other members in your area. 'Should be tons of members w/in 50 min. drive or so. I'm hoping you run into one who lets you try some of their razors - so you can experience the feel of different sizes/grinds/steels. Should your travels bring you near Portland, OR - let me know - try a bunch of my gear.
Have a great time on the journey.
