Thanked: 0Hello from Alberta, Canada
After much lurking, I've decided to become a member. About me: complete newbie to wet shaving, after a fair bit of reading I went ahead and purchased a SR set from a company here in Canada, and, at this point in time have shaved my face a half dozen times and my head about 3 times, and am thouroughly enjoying it, even the good slashes I've put on my face. The set came with a Dovo 5/8 half hollow (col. conk), russian leather/linen strop, brush, soap, creme, styptic, and a little bowl. Everything seems to work decent but my razor is slowly losing it sharpness, despite my best stropping efforts and hours watching stropping vids. This is a damn cool way to shave, I actually enjoy shaving now, without the irritation and pimples I used to get with 10 blade microsonic vibrating, heating and cooling, NASCAR approved, cartridge razor I was using before. I cant possibly hope to read everything I'd like to here, but I'm glad to be a member. And for anyone who shaves their head often and are unhappy with cartridge razors, switch over NOW, it is so much easier and faster with a straight, ironically I have more trouble with my face than my head.

Welcome to SRP. Sounds to me like you need to get that razor touched up. I would recommend you get at barbers hone to keep that blade fresh. From my understanding shaving your head with a str8 will dull the blade much faster than your face (much thicker hair). Feel free to ask lots of questions we are here to help.

Thanked: 0thanks everyone, hey rmalak, is there anything or any place in Calgary that carries any wet-shaving stuff ?? I go to town often, but just assumed there wouldn't be much in that respect.

Thanked: 1195Welcome from a member in Edmonton.
I don't know Calgary well, but when I have been shopping there I've found Taylor of Old Bond Street soap at Juliette's Day Spa and a Dovo Best at a knife shop at Chinook Center mall.
As for your razor, there are many touch up options. I like the Naniwa 12k and would highly recommend it, but there are cheaper options available.

Thanked: 0thanks ryan82, I recall seeing SR's at the knife store in chinook when I was a kid, but hadn't really paid much attention in adulthood, maybe I'll check it out next time I'm in town.

Thanked: 43As far as wet shaving supplies there really isn't a whole bunch. Body Shop has some creams, soaps and brush. Crab Tree and Evelyn has soaps and creams and maybe sells a brush. Bath and Body Works sells C.O. Bigelow which is relabeled Proraso. I've heard that Sephora sells brushes too but have not confirmed that. If you want your blade touched up just PM me and I can help with that.
