    Exclamation Hello from Spain

    Hello!
Nice community here, very happy to have come across.

So I am here, because I decide to take up the art of straight shaving, i was so very shocked and excited to know it is still around when I saw a little shop selling modern day straight razors and brushes and stropping belts. How cool I thought!

I am 22 years old, and am about to purchase the "prima" made of silver-steel (I read it holds edges longer, being a higher quality carbon steel..not actually silver) made by Dovo. I like this. it seems to be the best 'bang for my buck'. I have confidence I will not cut myself the first time!!! If I HOPE not to, i probably will, but if I KNOW not to I may do better. Have read and watched allot so think I'm ready.

My search began on ebay...then I realized WOW but what if it is a used razor...and maybe person who had before maybe has blood disease and probably cut themself accidentally.. I could get that disease! so trying to learn about this, to see if I can 'autocleave' them like jewelry and if it would be safe after... i found that ebay actually is NOT A GOOD CHOICE anyways, because you can buy new dovo for cheaper than used 'vintage' one, and that there are many fakes on there.. I looked up DOVO website, searched the site for vendors of their products listed... I found two websites I like: 'Royal Shave' and 'Vintage Blades'.

So much useful information on this site SRP, thank you for existence and hello all!

Hi! Welcome aboard! It's not just you - the review section has been disabled I think. Good luck with your journey! The search box is your friend

Ebay is not the right place to start because, as you read probably, your first razor has some requirement, mainly it MUST be shave ready. Though on ebay you can find some very good seller that can provide you a good vintage razor, cleaned, sanitized, honed and shave ready. If you like I can pm you a couple of names of EU vendors.

My suggestion for your first straight is buy a good model, if you can afford it, rather than the entry level. The first is your companion, you learn together and start together this fascinating trip, you will know its behavior perfectly and continue using it forever, even if in the meantime you bought several more. Allow him to be a first of the class and not disfigure with to your future precious ones.
Well, a vintage razor (ebay or other) can be a top razor at the cost of a new entry level.
