Thanked: 0Hi hi from Seattle!
Hello everyone,
I am new to using straight razors, but have wanted one for a very long time. I just picked up my first straight razor, it's an Iwasaki Kamisori! Although, I am still waiting for it to come in the mail, (so excited) I decided to look around on ebay a bit and found a really nice (or so it looks to be) antique kamisori from the Meiji Era. When I stumbled upon the auction, there was only a little time left and I felt compelled to bid! I won the bid!
The antique kamisori just got to my house today and the Iwasaki should be here next week. I plan to use the antique kamisori after getting it professionally honed. From the looks of it, there should be no problem honing it. Although, I am new to straight razors, so any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated! I will post pictures at the bottom.
I have also ordered some natural japanese whetstones from JNS (japanesenaturalstones.com). I got some Asano Mejiro Nagura and wanted to get a nice Ozuku 5+ stone, but Maxim was out of them when I made my order. However, I found a reputable store on Ebay and ordered a Nakayama. I still plan to get an Ozuku, preferably an "Asagi" type 5+ and a nice Botan Nagura from JNS, when they become available.
These are pictures of the antique kamisori. You will notice that two of the photos have the "makers signature". If anyone knows that signature or has any information on it, I would be very grateful!
Thank you for taking the time to read through my post and for any comments you leave.
