Hello from the UK
Hi all, I am totally new to all this. I am a 32 year Prison Officer (guard) and also ex armed forces. I found my place in hands on hobbies by making walking sticks. However, my ex-wife did a runner and kicked me out of the family home, she had trashed every stick I had cut which had taken a year to season. So, I hunted a new hobby and came across the world of straight razors. I have my first razor ready to start on and can't wait.
Anyway, sob story over, I look forward to reading the rest of these pages for hints and tips.

Welcome, check the workshop stickies and wiki links for tips and tricks, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Do you plan to just collect, or are you venturing forth into the abyss of wet shaving as well?

I turned 30 last August. I guess similar personality types and professions makes similar hobbies.

Evening Graeme from a fellow UK citizen (live in Bolton, Greater Manchester). Sounds like youve been through a tough time mate!!!
You have found a great hobby and have definatley found the best place for information and advice. The guys here are great and some of the razors this lot have are amazing!!!
I've been shaving with a straight for a little over 2 months and would NEVER turn back. Following my first shave i binned all of my disposible razors, Gillette Mach-Shit and shaving gel... one of the best decisions ive made!
