Default Noob in Columbus/Westerville, Ohio. Hello!

    Greetings exalted ones,

Just wanted to get a first post in here to say hello and to give a BIG thanks to all that contribute here. I've learned an incredible amount of information about the wet shaving world here in the past month or so. Though I'm still using a fusion cartridge (hope to have a str8rzr and strop by years end) I am getting much better shaves thanks to beard prep tips and products described here. I'm currently using Proraso cream (available at the Blue Star Barbershop in Columbus, OH) and a Limes soap in a wood bowl from Crabtree and Evelyn (also available locally at the Worthington Mall). I agree that the basic badger brush that C&E sells is great for the money (I read that on this site somewhere). I think it was $35. Very soft though it is slightly on the smallish side.

I look forward to continuing the expansion of this new hobby. And to think...I used to LOATH shaving! I bet I shave twice as often as I used to.

    Thanks again,

    Josh

    Welcome!!

Soon as you get on the road with your SR, the better your face will feel. Some of the vendors on this site have some nice 'Starter' razors for a great price. Buying from one of them will get you a shave ready razor, instead of Amazon or other sellers where you will have to have it honed first (save $$$)

In the interest of a larger brush, you might consider a boar brush from Semogue or Omega. The cost is less than you paid for a your cheap badger, and after a short break in period, I think you will find it every bit as soft.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Come back often.
Any day on this side of the flowers is a good day!

    Thanks, Eekspa!

Great tips. I've been keeping an eye on the classifieds for a good SR. I'm also in love with The Superior Shave as I feel his reviews are very honest and descriptive. There are so many other good retailers advertised here on SRP that I also enjoy quite a lot. But I do like saving $$ and purchasing good used items when appropriate, so I'm sure my first SR will be from the SRP classifieds as soon as something comes up that I really resonate with.

    Welcome to SRP Josh!

Sounds like you're heading the right way, it's not at all necessary to spend big bucks to start out (if you find that straight shaving is for you money will fly soon enough ) getting you first razor of the classifieds is a safe way to get a good and shave ready razor if you don't want to pay up for a new one right away.

Feel free to ask whatever question you might have, there's always someone around to answer

    Welcome.

If you ever get north of you to Medina, OH, I hear there is a place where you can see, feel and get to play with all the shaving goodies you could ever want to.

    Have fun

Holy crap...I never put 2 and 2 together! I feel I should have. But now that I've been set straight, I'm sure I'll have to drive up to Medina soon! In fact I'm going to be in Cleveland for a seminar on Nov 17 and 18 so I'll try to stop in if I can! What are the hours of operation?

    Cheers,
    Josh

You are not to far from my old stomping grounds! Did my Jr, Sr years at Dublin Coffmen. I do know what you mean by learning from this site, even if I dont ask something I still come away with some really good info. Like not to long ago I read a post about the Dirtybird Scutells, Then I meet Julie at an art show here in Norfolk Va, she's awesome. She told me that she could do other collors that she did'nt show on her web site. I've got one now and I owe it to this guys.
    Welcome and enjoy.
