Thanked: 1Hello from Afghanistan, with a quick question about the site
First off hello, I was looking into straight razor shaving a few months ago and was really thinking hard about it but couldnt get past the whole $150 for a razor plus everything else. I love the idea of it and I love the routine part of it. I started looking again about a week ago and i stumbled upon here. now to my question, is the site having difficulties? i've tried looking at the what razors are good and bad and also the acronyms and abbreviations and a few other things and the only thing that happens is a white page comes up and said page cannot be found. and i have checked it after my membership and it still does it. although it could just be this amazing internet they have in this country

Welcome HickLife,
I don't think it's you, as far as I know there have been issues with accessing the library.
You don't need to spend $150 on a razor. Have a look at the classifieds, which are working, there are a few razors well under $100 that are shave ready. A basic strop can also be gotten pretty cheaply.
Good luck

It's a fun hobby and nice to look forward to shaving every day.“there is the danger that the ignorant man may easily underdose himself and by exposing his microbes to nonlethal quantities of the drug make them resistant.”---Fleming

Hello from Afghanistan, with a quick question about the site
Im With you. I also enjoy a new razor.
There are also new razors that are <150. Some even <100. I hear that new dovo razors under 100$ are very nice
Used razors can just be had a lot cheaper which is why do many recommend the classifieds. Also many of those razors come from expert honers in great condition.
Whichever razor you pick can be sold pretty easily. If you are comfortable selling online then you shouldn't worry about losing out if you don't like the hobby.

Thanked: 275The lowest-cost way to get started with a straight razor is probably:
Whipped Dog Straight Razor Shaving Equipment
Larry's "sight-unseen" razors are not pretty, but they shave well by all reports. His "Poor Man's" strop kit is small but adequate, his badger brush is inexpensive.
. Charles. . . . . Mindful shaving, for a better world.

Hello from Afghanistan, with a quick question about the site
Idea... Being that you may not be in a situation where you can stow the equipment that you need for a straight razor, you might want to consider a decent Shavette . You can buy a Parker all stainless steel from Amazon.com for under 20$. It uses easier to find DE blades that you half. You get the look and feel of an open razor with out the problems and cost. Just an idea.
