    Default Hi from Germany

    Hello,

I'm Miri (female), and joined this forum to find out some information about straight razors, as that is my current X-mas gift of choice for my long-term boyfriend. I will be looking around the forum for information on where to get one (I live in Germany) ,and what combination of things that should be included would best suit a gift.

    Thanks.

Welcome to SRP. Browse the the Wiki/Library for information on razors to avoid and which tend to be decent brands. Lots of great razors were/are made in Germany. Make sure your boyfriend becomes a member here once you give him the gift so any questions he may have can be answered by the very helpful members here. I would recommend making a purchase from StraightRazorDesigns for a beginners set which includes a hand-honed shave ready razor (the most important thing) and a strop. The razor will come shave ready from Lynn, the gentleman who founded this forum. Other items that could be included are a shave brush and either shave soap or cream, but please be advised, this hobby can become an addiction, are you sure you want to start your boyfriend down a road that has no end?

Hahaha. Well, I will admit, I only came up with this idea because my bf mentioned recently that he's like to get a straight razor someday. He got the idea from the artofmanliness.com website, and wanted to start practicing in the future.

Since we are both still in college, I know he was not going to splurge on one right now, but I thought "What the hey, it could be cool for Christmas."

Thank you for the tips though! I've definitely started browsing.

    Default Hi from Germany

Do you have any idea if you want to get him a vintage razor or new one?

I can't think of any German members off the top of my head, but I know there are several...hopefully one will be along shortly who can give advice on honers (someone who sharpens the razor) near you, etc...

What region of Germany are you in?

    Cheers

    More north than south.

Hmmm, I was thinking of getting him a new one. Nothing fancy (yet. If it ends up being a hobby of his, that will be on him haha ), just a nice looking, stable straight razor. Maybe monogrammed with his initials or something. I have a few ideas now, since looking through this website, but I am waiting for my payday to order it for him. Heh^^.
