Thanked: 0Greetings from Utah!
Hello, forum. My name is Sterling; I'm from Utah. I've always had trouble shaving. It has always been a compromise between closeness or comfort and never without irritation. Somebody recommended wet shaving and this site, so for the past two weeks I've been doing research and I've become damn near obsessed. It looks so rewarding and therapeutic... I look forward to future interactions. Thank you, in advance, for the aid and advice I'll frequently be seeking throughout these forums.
I ordered the following on Amazon last week. The products should be arriving Monday or Tuesday...how did I do? Also, does anybody have any experience/opinions with the blades themselves? Are they of acceptable quality? If not, what type of blade would one recommend to a beginner? Feather brand blades? (I know there are many variables)
Parker SR1 Stainless Steel Straight Edge Razor and 5 Shark Super Stainless blades
Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush
Colonel Conk Watertight Travel Container with Soap
I look forward to my first straight razor shave. I'm assuming blood, discomfort and frustration will be consistent the first few weeks, but I will be persistent.Last edited by SterFry; 11-11-2012 at 08:25 PM.

Hey, brother, and welcome-- it's good to see another Utahn here on the forum. I am currently in barber school and use that same Parker razor on my clients, but with Lord blades (whom also happen to manufacture the Sharks), with great success. FYI, these razors handle and feel quite differently on the face as compared to a conventional straight, but are a good starting point nonetheless.
I'm in SLC, so PM me with any questions and I'll try to help you out the best that I can. Also, a few of us local guys get together every once in a while, so I'll keep you posted along those lines. Good luck, and I look forward to seeing you around."The ability to reason the un-reason which has afflicted my reason saps my ability to reason, so that I complain with good reason..."

Welcome to the SRP. There is a ton of information available, do some reading, try some shaving. You'll be enjoying a nice shave very soon.

Thanked: 275Get a styptic pencil from the local pharmacy, and keep it handy when you shave.
Move slowly and carefully, and you won't see much blood.
Have fun --
