    Default Greetings from colorado

Hello everyone. I have been reading these message board for several days now and felt it was time to sign up.

I am anxious to purchase my first straight razor! The closest I have come to a straight razor shave is the 3 times I had to make do with a divers knife that I spent all day sharpening.

I have been doing a large amount of research and I am still not sure what razor I will go with, there are so many options.

I guess my main concern would be the performance of the blade and finding that homeostasis between a quality blade that holds an edge and a fair price. fair is subjective, but when I think fair price I simply think "worth it" or "best bang for the buck".

G'Day Doc and welcome to SRP.

Glad to have you on board.

Have you read the stickys in the 'Beginners Forum'?

You'll find the answers to most of your questions there.

In my opinion (you'll get lots of those here...hehehe), all quality blades will perform in a similar manner when honed and used correctly.

Having said that, there are as many prefernces as there are members here.

IMHO your best bet is to read lots, use the search bar (top right of this page), look in the classifieds for a quality blade, email the seller and tell him your situation ('cause he has more experience than you do), listen to his advice and decide from there.

If you are after a new blade, then the businesses that advertise here can give you, not only good deals, but good advice as well.

We look forward to hearing about your journey
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

    Thank you Hava!

I have read many of the stickies on thew boards.

I think I want to start with the Dovo Black Ebony Bismarck 6/8". It seems affordable and I really like the style. Reminds me of a watch I used to own.

I am sure there will be a steep learning curve, but I usually take my hobbies pretty seriously and I don't mind spending the money to try out new razors. I was initially thinking it would be nice to not have to purchase disposable razors and I have had straight shaves from my barber before, which I loved.

The more I research, however, the more I realize I am probably going to just come down with RAD. I probably already have it in the early stages.
