Hello to all from new member
Hello to everyone,
A little about myself:
I'm a happily married father with two children out of college and one a Freshman this year.
The first two, both, have degrees in engineering and telecommunications, respectively.
The Freshman doesn't have a clue yet and thinks dad is made of money.
I am a Christian but certainly do not mean to offend anyone who is not by stating so.
I have used DE safety razors for quite a few years.
About a year ago, I decided to commit to straight razors exclusively.
Actually I have a list of things to do before I die. A straight razor shave by a barber was on the list. Not being able to find a barber in my area that does straight razor shaves, I had to take matters into my own hands...so to speak.
Some of my gear so far:
Naniwa 1k (Thinking about getting a Chosera 1K for setting bevels, though)
Norton 4k/8k
Naniwa 12k
Coti
DMT 325 lapping stone
CrOx .5 and .25 micron Diamond Spray on balsa paddle
TM Strop (Seems to be a fine person and not only because he makes great strops)
I have a number of various vintage straights all shave ready by my standards..at least I get nice shaves from them anyway. Not often BBS but nice irritation free close shaves.
I won't go into brushes, soaps/creams,AS...etc here. Other than I have spent quite a bit on them.
With your help I look forward to learning and improving in all aspects of straight razor shaving.
TIA

G'Day and welcome to SRP, TWJ.
Thanks for sharing your details with us - the only thing you didn't tell us is where you are....
You might like to edit your profile to reflect this.
You seem to be well set up with gear, however, I would suggest that you get used to stropping and shaving before you attempt to hone - it just makes the learning curve a little less steep IME
Ooops - I just re-read your post and, it seems that you have it down pat already......
It might be worth sending one of your blades out for 'professional' honing - only to have a benchmark, so to speak.
We look forward to sharing your journey with youHang on and enjoy the ride...

Thank you for the warm welcome and tip, too!
I am getting good shaves already and have been lurking the forum for a while.
This is my first post. Feels nice being a member instead of a lurker

Welcome to SRP! I have been here for about three months and it is a great place to learn! Looks like you have a great start as far as gear is concerned. I appreciate that you are not ashamed of your faith. I am a minister myself, and I hate that people feel like they will offend someone just by making any type of faith claim! (Romans 1:16) Great to have you in the forum! and God Bless!

Thanked: 10Welcome from another newbie. I lurked for awhile as well but am glad to jump right in finally. It sounds like you have everything you need and you found the right place to find any info you don't have. Good luck. Also, the barber shave is still something I would shoot for. Even after straight razor shaving for a while I still miss the barber shave experience sometimes.
