Thanked: 0Hello From Galway
I have just started using a Straight Razor. So far so good I haven't had to many bad nicks.
Anyone have any tips on shaving your neck. I can get my Right hand side as that is my dominant hand just on the left the hair tends to grow in all directions so it is hard to go with the grain add that to the less dominant hand doing the shaving.
Is this something that will come with practice?

G'Day and welcome to the fold.
One of my favourite ports is named after your location (Galway Pipe) - anyway, after two years I still can't get one particular area on my neck BBS all the time.
Sometimes I do and then I can't remember how I did it....
It will come with practice, so don't get too twisted up about it - it is a journey, after all.
Keep us posted on your progressHang on and enjoy the ride...

Thanked: 0So far so good no bad nick and cuts.
Neck area is getting better as I continue to practice. Still haven't managed ATG but that will come.
Just a couple of questions as a Newbie:
I have a Dovo "The Classic", I know this was classified as a beginner shaver but is this a good razor to keep using once I become proficient enough.
Can you recommend a good strop I have 2 inch one which I would prefer wider as I don't have to do the cross also it don't have the cloth which seems to be a good idea?
Last but not least. When do you really need to get a razor honed? I would like to do it myself any tips on stones?
Thanks
