Thanked: 1Hello from Stockton, CA
I walked into a mall in downtown San Francisco about a year ago and found The Art of Shaving. The idea of straight razor shaving seemed interesting but I could not come to terms of investing several hundreds into an unknown activity. Over the next few weeks, I could not shake the idea of shaving with a straight razor and have always hated shaving due to lack of satisfaction with disposables.
After a month of wanting to jump in, i revisited the shop and still was skeptical not knowing anything about the practice. I ended up picking up a Dovo Shavette to try it a few times since I travel quite a bit for work. This allowed me to step in slowly and not have to pack alot of gear while traveling. I promised myself if I am still shaving with the Shavette after a year, I will invest into a new quality blade.
It has been a year, I have enjoyed every shave. Wow, have I enjoyed this!. I have been using Art of Shaving soap, pre-shave oils, and after shave lotions. I was looking for a few hints for the wife on what type of blade I would like for Christmas and had no idea this forum was out here and that so many men actually enjoy this form of shaving.
What I would be interested in is creating the best shaving experience. I like the traditional badger tail brush, using soap, and having a daily facial, if you will. I am in search of best soaps or home-made soap recipes, best pre-shave lubricants, and post shave treatments. So far I have been using Art of Shaving products, which to me is a step up from my foamy and bic days.
Any recommendations of blades, soaps, or treatments (pre/post) would be greatly appreciated. I hate experimenting with unknown products found in shelves around town, thanks in advance!

G'Day and welcome to SRP.
You'll find just about everything you need to know (and stuff you don't) on the relevant forums on this site.
I would suggest the classifieds for a shave ready vintage blade (just don't ask which one you need 'cause it is such a personal journey), however, a PM to the seller will help.
The search bar is your friend too for specifics on various tools of trade, so-to-speak
We look forward to hearing of your journey and helping where we can.
