    Default New Straight Razor Shaver

    Hello Everyone!

After many days of research, I've finally taken the plunge and bought myself a strop and straight razor!

My first shave left my face quite red, and didn't get as close as my safety razor, but I had a suspicion the razor wasn't sharp enough.

My family is frantically trying to get me to reconsider, saying how lethal and dangerous it is. I wonder, is this true? Or can I expect years of comfortable shaves without worrying about slipping and cutting my jugular?

Is straight razor shaving safe if I am careful?

With how sharp the blade is, if the edge catches, it seems the skin could be filleted pretty easily.

I think straight razor shaving is awesome, but I am still concerned about my safety.

I lurked here for a couple of weeks before I joined, and I want to say this site is a wealth of knowledge. Thanks tons!

Welcome to SRP. Once you get it down you won't want to shave any other way. At least that has been my experience. To avoid nicks and cuts read this post here . Also go to the SRP library here and read the beginner's guide. Would be a good idea to ease into it by reading Lynn Abrams suggestions for the first straight razor shave in the beginner's guide and do what he suggests.
