    Default Hello!

Hi, my name is Paul Hunnisett and I'm a straight razor newbie.

I recently bought a bluebeard's revenge shavette, which I used yesterday for the first time - there was plenty of blood!

I'm pretty sure I know (at least one of the things) I was doing wrong. I don't think I was stretching the skin enough and I got some really good bleeders!

Very keen to try again, but a little frustrated as I should probably give my face plenty of time to heal properly before shaving again!

Edit: I should probably add that I only did my cheeks down to the jawline for my first shave and finished up with my mach 3. I also did the sideburn area - although there's very little of that as I have fairly long sideburns which are staying where they are!

    G'Day and welcome to SRP.

I'd say that you may have been using too much pressure as well - easy to do in the early days of the journey.

You might like to edit your profile and let us know where you are so we can be of more help.

    It gets better with practice.....
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Welcome to SRP. It sounds like you have done your research for the first shave so well done. Shavettes tend to be alittle less forgiving than real straights, so ensure you use a very light stroke with each pass. Keep at and you'll soon be rewarded with great shaves and you'll look forward to shaving.

You say that now, but once you are hooked on this hobby, you may find yourself wanting to shave more surface area on your face, at least I did and my long sideburns are but a distant memory living on only in photographs.

I can't imagine ever wanting to get rid of my beauties!

There's still plenty of my face to enjoy shaving even with my bad boys staying where they are

i must agree with you on that one! i sport a handle bar mo and a goatie and it is very tempting to shave it off for the pleasure of those few extra strokes! so far ive succeeded in beating such temptations BUT the time for giving in will come soon and i can feel it!

exactly my thoughts when i started shaving, but glad to know that youre having it your way! although about the bleeding, i think it really is about the pressure. even a little bit of extra pressure with a shavette can make your washroom look like something out of a Wes Craven movie, short and light strokes is the key to start off. also try the basic beard prep methods for softening the beard which would help lessening the irritation and help reduce nicks.

And welcome to srp! have fun

Pressure sucks but bleeding is a good teacher. By all means let your face heal completely before trying again or else you will just reopen and probably add to the cuts.

    enjoy,

Second attempt went well. No major bleeding at all - just a couple of minor nicks. Very happy with that

Also felt gung ho enough to do my upper lip - only WTG though!
