    Default Hello from North Carolina!

Hello! New to the forum but been shaving with DE razor most of my adult life. Thinking about moving up to straight razor, a little nervous and very unsure of what is considered a "good" straight razor. Lots to choose from.Any help is definitely appreciated and greatly needed. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Welcome to SRP!
if you read through the beginners section of the Wiki you will find a list of "not good razors" or "razor shaped objects." a good razor is simply one that is shaving sharp, can easily be maintained in that condition and has intact scales (unless it is a japanese style that does not require them) all else is window dressing. i regularly shave with 170+yo razors that have worn ugly bug eaten original horn scales and lots of patina on the blade ... they shave like a dream. alternately the new custom and manufactured ones are pretty as sin and shave as nice... all window dressing.

    enjoy,
    jim
