Hello All, New from Ocean County, NJ
Hello Everyone, I am new to straight razor shaving and I am seriously looking for a good straight razor. Had an interest in it for some time and was pushed into it by my son who is also a newbe and started about 4 months ago. On his recomendation I bought a shavette and regret doing so after reading the good and bad reasons to purchase one on this site. I can personally verify the second paragraph on the bad points. Too bad it wasn't halloween I would have been ready to go to any costume party. lol (My first shave with it was much better btw) Anyway, there is quite a bit of good information here and i have alot of reading to do yet before buyiing my first SR. Hope to do so in a few days.
Regards

Hey Cbrown, Welcome to SRP!
I am also a noob and like you started using shavette's but today I finally received my new Dovo BQ 5/8" with my 3" Strop set from SRD (Staightrazordesigns.com) one of the sponsors from the site. They have excellent prices but more important your SR will be honned by the best in the business.
If you want to spend some less cash you can go with the poor man's Kit from Whipped Dog.
The most important advice I can give you is read, read and read some more. Also, be patient and take your time.
Also, make sure to check this thread out:

Some of us are planning a meet on the 13th of next month.

Me too....While I wasn't pushed into it I'm being coached by my 22 year old son who has been wet shaving for over 2 years now. I know fathers are supposed to teach sons but in this case he was the first in my family to shave this way (I vaguely remember my grandfather straight razor shaving). It is very nice spending some father and son time in this endeavor.
ynjoy.

Thanks for the welcom. I will check out the Whipped Dog tonight. However, I orderd the 3" strop and the same razor that you did, last night. Can't wait for it to get here.
My father said that he use to shave with a SR but stopped at the request of my Mom. He must have quit before I was born because I dont remember seeing any of the utensils for sr shaving around. Will be keeping an eye on the meet in NY. Sounds like it will be fun if it flys.
