Cool Hello... New to the SRP

Hey brothers - new to this old art and looking forward to some learning and some support. I decided that this coming year (2013) will be a year to celebrate manliness. Not only will I be getting married after 30 decades of wandering the Earth like Cain, but I have created a meditation to adopt more things that my grandfather did. He was born in 1896, which means he was born over 85 years before I was. He had long since passed by the time I was a twinkle in my father's eyes, so I get to fill in some of details with family legend and lore. But I know he was a clean-shaven man. A card player. A tobacco smoker, a whiskey distiller, a brothel owner, a fur trapper, a logger, and an inventor.

So, this year, I've sharpened my axe, welded my still, shuffled my deck, polished my Peterson's, cleared my design bench, and purchased my first traditional razor. Perhaps 2013 will yield a brothel or fur trapping opportunity that is thus far unforeseen, but I doubt it. As it stands, I am ending THIS year with my first few straight razor shaves - and I must say - I'm actually excited about shaving. After a stint in the military, nothing could be more routine than shaving up in the dark at 0400. But I have a new thrill of steel to skin, and I hope to learn more in terms of technique, terminology, and avoid a tragic case of R.A.D.

From an enthusiastic new shaver, Hello.

Welcome aboard !!! My Grand Father was born in 1906 and was a barber at the young age of 20... And barbered until he retired. And Iam lucky enough to have one of his straights. He too was a gambler and smoked cigars ,but Iam the fur trapper and neither one of us ever owned a cat house LOL . You will love this forum, just have some thick skin and give the ball busting as well as take it too !!! ENJOY

Well my grandfather was a distiller ( a shiner where I come from). I too started making my own beverages, but I stay with the legal side of making Mead and Beer. Good luck with the new hobbies. I know I am still new at it and am learning as I go. There is a lot of great info on here and friendly people to ask.

Thanks for the greetings. I am looking forward to it... and my skin is relatively thick. I'm sure there are plenty of good stories here to compliment the ball busting. SN
