Thanked: 0Newbie signing in from sunny East Belfast
Like a lot of others, I've finally taken the plunge and ordered a straight razor (Dovo) and some accessories. I hope I can hack it (no pun intended), since doing some research it seems this world involves a bit more effort than just buying a blade and a strop, but I'm guessing its like everything else in life....you only get back what you put in.

Thanked: 67Welcome to SRP!
You're right, there is a learning curve to shaving with a straight, but the effort is well worth making. It's also a great feeling to find yourself improving week-on-week.
There's a ton of useful info in the wiki ('Library' link at the top of the page), and there are lots of threads covering all aspects of shaving and razor use/care - and if you can't find an answer, just ask!
Hope you enjoy your new razor.

Thanked: 0Cheers, I've just added another couple of hours, reading tons of info on Real Shaving and even before I've laid hands on my first straight razor, I'm hooked.
This site is amazing.

Thanked: 0Cheers Stevie, I have to agree, everyone seems very helpful. This Real Shaving thing, seems more addictive than Golf (I don't play), but it's probably more beneficial. Having watched the videos, the 'Ritual' equates to a Zen like experience.

Thanked: 6It definately is. It's nice to slow things down and focus solely on this task. Don't worry if you have to finish with your usual razor, most of us did/do that. There's a good sticky in beginners forum I think it's called 'First Shave' by Lynn, defo worth a read.
Also, check out videos from Lynn, gssixgun and gary haywood on youtube
