Thanked: 0I just picked up a DOVO SS 5/8 Best Class SR with Snakewood handles. I can't wait to give it a try. I've been using a Merkur DE for some time, and I am ready to switch over to a real shave.

Thanked: 1936Where did you order it from? I ask, because many razors do not come sharp enough to shave. If it came from Straight Razor Designs, then it IS shave ready...elsewhere probably not. You will need some quality soap, a brush, and a strop. Where are you from Tex?

Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 0I purchased it from classicshaving.com, they will have it honed by somebody at their shop and shave ready for delivery. They re-sharped their SRs since the factory edge isn't good enough in their eyes (which from what i have heard/read is a true statement). If it isn't shave ready when I receive it, then I will find somebody on SRP to get it GTG. I already have everything else, and my strop is on the way with it! I currently use hard soaps with my DE, and I have been looking at some Trumpers shaving creams to purchase once my pucks run dry. I am from Abilene, Tx area BTW

Thanked: 0I actually just visited that site, and picked up some Cream and a Scuttle. Thanks for the direction on where to pick up some new product. Once I run out, or want to try some new stuff out. I will get that Proraso a try! I just had to try out the nice shaving creams i have heard so much about. Why not give it a rip with the new razor...since it will take me some time to buiid up to full shave with it. I might as well get some use out of my DE also. I am interested on how this scuttle will keep the lather nice and hot throughout the shave. I typically just soak my soap, and bowl with hot water while I get the face ready. But I think it will be nice to have a nice hot lather the entire time. We shall see how it works!

Well got the str8 in the yesterday, and did a 2 full passes WTG for the first shave (felt pretty confident). Wow...what a difference in shaves! It's already the best shave I've ever done. No nicks, cuts, or burn to boot...left I little bit around the chin for the DE...but I'm sold! Can't wait until I get good at it, and feel comfortable with it.
