Thanked: 0New Member SRP is great!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Andrew, I live in CT, FL, and China through out the year normally.
I forgot what made me want to get into straight razors.
I went for the first time year and half ago to my local barber (he gave me my first haircut ever, and his last name is literally "Barber") That is all true.
I am drawn to this because, its a better shave, its better for the enviornment, its awesome, it saves money, its awesome.
Should I make this long or short....
I will post a photo of my set up soon.
Shawanadong comes from the name is my favorite jet ski's nick name at work.
I have a lot of questions from the experts.

Thanked: 0I first tried to shave after sharpening my razor by a chinese guy on the street who sharpens kitchen knives. I just dont think he had a fine enough stone. I tried to strop it with a peice of leather we had. It worked, but not great.
When I got home I had my barber sharpen all three with a machine with a spinning stone then on a stone then on a strop. They shaved good. But I'm wondering, can they shave better? Is it my razors or my sharpening?

Thanked: 0I'm doing hot water on the face, shave oil, shaving soap, shave down the grain then against. Up on the neck the way the hair goes. Then aftershave or toner. I notice the AF can dry my skin out.
I love the closeness i get on my cheeks but my neck does not get as close as a regular razor...

Thanked: 0I got "The Art Of Shaving Kit" got christmas. It was alot of money $175 bucks or something. Its the brush a book and shaving soaps creams and stuff.
I read about them, they seem like a rip off kind of. They sell dovos. I was thinking maybe its better I just buy a high quality straight razor like a dovo?
Anyone know how there brush is?

Thanked: 580The razors you have should be fine if they are sharpened correctly, that is usually the No 1 problem, but it takes alot of practice and shaves till you start getting good at it.

Thanked: 1184There are some guys here who will sharpen that razor as good as it can be. I would suggest you pick one of them to do 1 or 2 and see what it is supposed to be like. Learn to strop it right and your set.
