Cool Seattle, WA. New guy here on my 2nd straight razor shave

    Hello,

I'm Taylor Knowles from Bothell, WA, near Seattle. I myself am new to wet shaving but successfully completed my first shave this week. All went well and I really enjoyed the quality and effectiveness of the straight razor. I have 7 different straight razors which I acquired from my Grandma who is a hair stylist. She has had them in her basement for at least 40 years. All of the razors were owned by a friend of hers who was a barber. He died in the 1970's and the razors have been unused since. I recently just cleaned and polished a few of them and even had 2 sent in for honing and stroping. One shaved great but the 2nd didn't seem to cut as easily the other. Both were honed/stroped by Seattle Knife Sharpening Co.

I used to have a beard and then pulled out all the stops with a handlebar mustache and wax. Unfortunately, my new job requires that I shave everyday. If I must shave, I've decided to embrace the manliness and become a straight razor man.

Like that last bit there bud. Welcome to the world and the best, most helpful forum out there IMHO. Kudos to getting 7 pseudo vintage s/r's with stories to tell too
I'm all about peace, just don't piss me off.

Congratulations on making the switch! There is a balance between a bald face, and a beard! I find it a challenge everyday that I can shave around my goatee without slicing my chin/cheek. I've been "straight" shaver for 2 years now and will never go back to disposables. This is an awesome forum with great people who love to help each other. So welcome aboard!

If you have problem with your honed razors I can check them for you, possibly even hone for free. I did it already for few guys in Seattle area. Last time I honed Filarmonica and come pretty well:-) I live in Kent. I don`t know much about Seattle Knife Sharpening Co services but if this is knife only service you might your razors were not done properly.
