Confused Gift Recipient

Just got a great setup from Aos. The Dovo strop I have has a linen side & leather side. I have a strop paste by Thiers Issard- 'Pate A Rasoir' a l'uminocyline, which the barber said was for conditioning the leather, yet I have read that this particular paste is meant to go on the linen side. The paste has no directions & I have had no definitive luck with Google. If anyone is familiar with this product & can tell me which side the paste belongs, I would greatly appreciate it.
Also in general with this type of strop should I have different types of paste on both sides & if so what kinds are recommended.
