Thanked: 0Hey
Hello all-
I'm finally taking the time to introduce myself. I'm Ed from the south suburbs of Chicago. I'm 32, married with one little one running around. I'm a firefighter/paramedic and totally new to this whole concept. I've heard that straight razor shaving was excellent for the skin which is just what I've been looking for. For years I've used mach 3 this turbo that and have never been fully satisfied with the results. Until one day I happened to find an AoS store at the mall and stopped in. I've been using there sandalwood set for the past month or two and think it's great, all while using my old razor. Finally though after at least 3 months of research I took the plunge and purchased my first razor. I went with a Dovo, best quality 6/8. I have yet to have the time to try and shave with it but I've only had it a few days. I plan on trying it tomorrow and I will post my trials.

Welcome to SRP!
Did you buy the dovo at aos or from a vendor that honed it properly?
take your time with the first few shaves and like Lynn suggests start off by doing the big flat areas like your cheeks while you learn then do the tricky areas with your current tool... it should make the journey easier.
enjoy,
jim

Thanked: 0Thanks for the advice. I purchased the razor from straight razor designs, which stated the razors are honed by Lynn. So I'm assuming that it is truly shave ready.

Welcome aboard! As you've already been advised: take it slowly, start with the easier areas (flat of your cheeks) and don't be ashamed of finishing with your old razor. You're learning a new skill and it takes a while to get a feel for the proper blade angle and pressure.
Let us know how it goes!Greg
