Thanked: 0New to straight razor shaving and this learned forum
Hello, all, I'm Jeepjorge and newbie to straight razor shaving. I've been using a Merkur and a Edwin Jäger DE razors for a couple of months and decided to give straight razors a try. I have a Dovo Shavette and just received a Hen & Rooster straight razor with faux tortoise shell scales.
i must admit that my efforts have yielded poor and bloody results. I hope to learn enough to master my SR razors and achieve as good or better shaves as I get with my DE razors. Cheers.

Welcome aboard. Lots of great info here. Hopefully things get better before you need to replace your styptic pencil.
Remember search is your friend. And of course ask away.

I began with a Shavette as well and had the same results you are having. I learned that it just takes some time to get the angles and pressure right and nicks and cuts are part of the learning curve. It might take you a month to get past all that, but if you stick with it it will happen. Shaving well with a straight, Shavette or otherwise, is not easy, and it is a skill that is acquired over time. Give it time, lighten any pressure you are using, change blades when required and stay with it. Good luck!

Thanked: 0Thanks, Ace. I definitely will stick with it. I'm bound and determined to get this skill right and helpful folks like you and others here will help me make that happen. I've already contacted a member about having my razor honed. In the meantime, I'll keep using the Dovo Shavette, but a lot more carefully. Cheers.
