    Default Hello from Mississippi!

Hello! Well after quite some time lurking in the shadows and researching and trying new suggestions that members have posted, I finally registered to join in the forum. I am still a newbie to straight razor shaving but am really enjoying it. This is truly a great place to gain a lot of knowledge in the area of straight razors and using them to shave.
I attempted to start SRS (straight razor shaving) about 15 years ago when I received a Dovo Best Quality razor for Christmas. I had no idea how to SRS, but I was eager to dive right in. I lost a lot of blood and was lucky enough to escape with both of my ear lobes. My first shave looked as if I ran face first through a mile long briar patch. After a few more painful attempts, I just couldn't do it anymore. I put the razor up and left it there for quite a number of years. I then rekindled my desire to SRS only to find that my razor was tarnished with a rusted spot. I cleaned it up the best I could but it still has a "water mark" on the blade. I had no idea of honing or stropping. I am still learning. I attempted to shave a few more times but lost interest yet again.
About 2 months ago, I decided to research straight razor shaving and stumbled across this site. I am proud to report, thanks to Y'all, that tonight, yes tonight, I had the best shave I have ever had in my life!!
Like I said earlier, I am still learning, but I am a better honed and stropped man today than I was yesterday! And my face is smooooooooth!!!!!
Wow, it is amazing what some good advice, patience, and practice can produce. I am hooked!!!! If only my beard would grow faster so I can shave again!! Am I crazy for feeling that there is a passion for straight razor shaving? Oh well, call me crazy.
Any day there is blood on the floor and its not yours,,,,its a good day!

Welcome to SRP ! Sounds like you're off to a good start. You might want to send that Dovo out to a pro honer and pick up a couple of vintage razors to practice honing. You'll have one sure enough shave ready to use and to compare your own efforts on.

Sounds very similar to my start in the land of cut-throats. Welcome aboard the SS SRP mate.
