    Talking Good morning from Pennsylvania!

Like many of you, I too got tired of paying for razor cartridges and decided to switch to a straight razor. I purchased a 6/8 square point Series One Hart razor and today is the big day of my first shave. I've been reading up and watching videos and I think I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Thanks for all the good advice!

Saving money had nothing to do with my move to SRs. I haven't saved a cent, in fact it has been quite the opposite. What I have found is more fun doing it and (within some time) better shaves. Welcome to SRP!

    Welcome to SRP!

Many of us started straight shaving to escape the tyranny of those little plastic expensive things, but few of us have saved a cent. However, having started with a quality razor, you might actually have a shot at pulling off this saving money thing! My first one was not a quality razor, so I quickly looked to replace it with another, which I restored and caught the first of my acquisition disorders: RAD. But having started off with a good one, you *might* have a shot at at least delaying, if not avoiding altogether, RAD.

So the bad news is that this can get expensive if you let it. But the good news is that it can be an awful lot of fun. And who thought people would be saying that about a chore such as shaving?

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Welcome Red to the forum and to straight razor shaving. You've made a wonderful choice in this passion of ours. Just have patience and practice, and this rewarding artform will be all worth wild.
Its also good to see another local member here as well, I'm from Philly. So dont hesitate to ask for help.
    Good Luck!

Four months ago, I started off with a good razor. I bought a third one earlier this evening. This isn't looking hopeful, not for my bank account, anyway.

    Default shave #1 complete!

Well I got a pretty good shave this morning. Only a couple of nicks-- no worse than a fast double edge shave!

As many of you stated, I probably won't save money, but that was a good way to justify the purchase in my head.

I was surprised at how easily I adapted to shaving with my left hand (being a righty). I think I may give my face a day of tomorrow though.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

Congrats! It's great to hear it went well. Good idea getting your 'other' hand involved in there too. I never did that when I started and have kind of regretted it. Maybe I'll add that to my to do list...
