Thanked: 0Hello from the Knoxville area!
I've been reading through the various helpful articles and threads on this forum for a couple of weeks now while shopping for a straight razor. I finally got a lovely Bengall off of ebay and signed up!

Welcome to SRP!
that is a lovely looking bengall! properly honed they are fantastic shavers and oddly were very popular in Australia.
I trust that you have also acquired the other needed items... a strop, a brush and some soap/cream to round out the experience?
enjoy,
jim

Thanked: 0Hi Jim,
I've got a brush and soap, and a strop is currently on its way to my home!

Paul,
sounds good about the strop brush and soap.
is the razor shave ready? many sellers on ebay do not understand that very sharp is not the same as shave ready. to really be able to enjoy a straight razor shave you need a perfectly honed razor.
enjoy,
jim

Welcome, nice blade there. Always something to learn here so keep reading.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 0Jim,
The auction description was very sparse and did not mention whether it was shave-ready or not. I was expecting it to need some work, but it came very sharp. I don't have a strop yet, so I was hesitant to attempt shaving my face with it, but it very neatly took off a patch of hair on the underside of my forearm.
Cheers,
Paul

Paul,
Glad you are waiting, since there seems to be only 2 razors that were sold by that vendor and neither of them were listed as shave ready it probably is not. I would notrecommendd trying it on your face as all. Sending it out to get it honed will save you a fair about of pain while it may cut arm hair facial hair is a different world.
check out the ads for member services for members who can help you out with the honing. Sadly i did not find any working in knoxville.
enjoy,
jim

Hi neighbor, Welcome to SRP! I'm West of you over here in Crossville, about 1 1/2 miles off I-40.
I have the same razor only in yellow scales, a real fine shaver. You can't go wrong with a Bengall and yours looks like a real nice one.Last edited by DoughBoy68; 01-24-2013 at 06:05 PM.

Thanked: 0Hi neighbor! I know of Crossville. I technically live in Oak Ridge. What do you do as far as honing your razor? Do you send it out? Is there somewhere local?

Welcome Knoxville Native. I live just east of the city.
Happy to help where I can. Read the WIKI and don't be afraid to ask questions. There are many here who are always ready to help.
I personally hone my own razors and have done a few for others. I have 1 Bengall razor in my arsenal and I can tell you it took some time to hone but it is now one of favorites. (I guess that's not saying too much - I have more than a few I call favorites) It is a good razor though.
